PitmanScript: Basic Text


Pitmanscript - A very readable shorthand which lends itself to smooth writing. All the vowels are used. Seven common constants (N,S,T,R,D,L,H), in addition to their use as unique words have special alternate signs for easy joined-up writing. The frequency of use of these 7 consonants in English is as high as 37% (N.S.T.R represent 25% of the letters used). Short forma are used for ch, th, sh, zh. Script is built from syllables and sounds to create words. Short forms are used for sounds involving kw, st, ts, dr, der, nder. Also covered are endings like -inion, -ion, -nin, -anion. And -ing, -ful(l)(y)(ily). A vowel ending might use a disjoined horizontal dash, vowel + ing is a disjoined horizontal dash linked with the -ing sign. 60 common words (50% of all spoken English) are collected as short forms made of letters, vowels or shorthand signs(symbols) Linking is the joining up of common word representations into phrases or groups of words. Longhand abbreviations are commonly used. Script for weekdays, months, cities and countries are interesting collections worthy of close study. Only 103 pages and no index, but short enough to search for answers to questions arising...how do I write ..., lots of Links examples, regular exercises. Short forms and words are side by side or script and sentences are one below the other. Only later are paragraphs and their script translation quite separate. Easy to learn, sound in conception, worth searching for any supporting books.
